Missouri SR22
SR-22 filing is required in the state of Missouri due to one of the following violations:
- Driving without insurance
- Non-Alcohol Moving Violation Points
- Motor vehicle accident
- Driving under the influence of alcohol
- Refusal of Alcohol/Drug Test
In most situations you will be required to file and maintain proof of liability insurance for two years from your suspension or revocation date. If you need to fulfill mandatory insurance requirements it will be three years from the eligible reinstatement date.
How long do I need to carry the SR22 filing?
In most cases you must maintain the sr22 filing for three years but up to five years. The cost to add an SR22 to an auto insurance policy varies between insurance companies but is usually less than $50.

Missouri SR22 Requirements
When you go to reinstate your driver's license with the state you may need to file form SR-22. This form is only required once and not for each reason your license was suspended. Most reinstatement fees are $20 but can be $45 for an alcohol related violation, check the chart below for fees.
The state of Missouri requires liability insurance to protect other drivers in the event of an accident. The minimum limits are:
- $25k Per Person Bodily Injury
- $50k Per Accident Bodily Injury
- $10k Property Damage

How to Reinstate Your License
The reason your license was suspended or revoked is sent in a letter from the Driver License Bureau. The letter will state the date(s) when you may reinstate your license. Missouri offers a chart to determine what forms you must file and the fees involved but we will show the most common:

Missouri DWI Law
Effective 8/28/2010 House Bill 1695 made changes to state law regarding repeat alcohol offenders and drivers with high blood-alcohol levels. The new law includes the following changes:
- Prevent municipal courts from hearing an intoxication-related case if the offender has two or more related offenses
- Created a centralized database to track all DWI violations
- Created DWI courts to help with treatment of repeat offenders
- New criteria for participants of a DWI court program to get a limited driving privilege
The new law is a way for the state to take greater action toward drivers who fail to make sound judgements when drinking. It will create more punishment for those who continue to drink and drive.
Required to get an Ignition Interlock Device?
The ignition interlock device is simply a breath test device that is installed on a vehicle. Each time the driver wants to start the car they must blow into the device to test the blood alcohol content of the driver.
If you have more than one alcohol related violation an IID must be installed and maintained. The cost to install the IID is your responsibility and the installer will notify the state after installation is complete. In addition to being installed in each vehicle that you operate it must be maintained for six months from the reinstatement date.
In rare cases an IID can be required by court order if you only have one alcohol offense.
Missouri approved Ignition Interlock Device Installers
If you fail to maintain the device during the six month period your license will be re-suspended. After that the device will need to be reinstalled and pay a $20 fee.
